What Is Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis?

PGT is a technique used in fertility clinics to detect genetic disorders in embryos before they are transferred to the uterus. This allows us to avoid passing on genetic diseases such as muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, or thalassemia. PGT is also recommended in cases of repeated miscarriages, as it helps ensure that only genetically normal embryos are transferred, reducing the risk of miscarriage due to chromosomal abnormalities.


How Is This Technique Performed?

Once in vitro fertilization (IVF) is complete, a biopsy is taken from each embryo. This sample is then genetically analyzed, allowing us to identify any embryos with congenital diseases or chromosomal alterations. After the selection process, the healthy embryos are transferred to the uterus.


What Happens to the Healthy Embryos Not Transferred?

Any healthy embryos that are not transferred can be frozen using vitrification, allowing them to be preserved for future use if needed.
